Dolphins Likely to Allow Jevon Holland Free Agency Exploration

Following an 8-9 record under Mike McDaniel’s direction, the Miami Dolphins face critical decisions this offseason. Chief among them: the future of 24-year-old safety Jevon Holland as he approaches free agency; reports indicate Miami may omit placing the franchise tag instead allowing Holland to explore his options freely within free agency.

Future Uncertain for Holland with the Dolphins

NFL insider Cameron Wolfe revealed that the Dolphins seem unlikely to utilize the franchise tag on Jevon Holland, making him a significant player to watch as he potentially enters free agency. Drafted in the second round of the 2021 NFL draft from Oregon, Holland has been a standout in his tenure with Miami, starting in 57 of his 60 games played. Despite experiencing the most challenging season of his career in 2024, Holland’s contributions in previous years have established him as a key player in the team’s defense.

Holland reached his performance peak during 2022 season, when his accomplishments included two interceptions, 1.5 sacks, and 96 combined tackles across his appearances. 2024 marked an decrease in productivity as it marked his first season without an interception and only recording 62 combined tackles out of 15 games played; regardless, Holland is highly esteemed among many for being three-time captain whose leadership makes him invaluable asset to any organization.

After Holland chose not to franchise tag with the Dolphins, speculation on his future has arisen, with questions regarding his place among other team needs and whether Chris Grier can prioritize Holland re-signing him over other roster needs. With Holland remaining as part of their future vision it remains to be seen what approach will be taken when filling roster gaps while taking into consideration Holland.
