Gardner Minshew Joins Kansas City Chiefs on a One-Year Agreement

After their Super Bowl loss against the Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs are taking strategic moves following Carson Wentz’s free agency in 2025. Gardner Minshew has since confirmed a one-year contract. Minshew previously played with Las Vegas Raiders – where initially signed two year, $25 million contract before leaving after just one season; before joining Kansas City. Now joining Minshew will make this team number seven!

A Strategic Addition for the Chiefs

The official announcement about Minshew’s signing was shared, highlighting the Chiefs’ move to secure a backup quarterback for Patrick Mahomes for the upcoming season. Despite the one-year term of the deal, Minshew brings with him guaranteed money from his previous contract with the Raiders.

Minshew began his NFL journey when the Jacksonville Jaguars selected him in the 6th round of 2019 draft out of Washington State and selected him in the 6th round. Over his two professional seasons with Jacksonville, he started in 20 out of 23 games; later joining Philadelphia Eagles for two seasons and later Indianapolis Colts and Las Vegas Raiders before finally earning him another opportunity with Kansas City Chiefs as backup to Patrick Mahomes in 2024 despite injury challenges such as broken collarbone.

Minshew has played in 59 NFL games over his nine year NFL career and started 46 of those contests, making his experience and adaptability invaluable assets to the Chiefs as they look to strengthen their quarterback lineup for 2025 season.
